Baby & Me at Wake Forest Public Library This is the last Baby & Me at Wake Forest Library until April 6th! Let's have the babies socialize with each other during Baby & Me at Wake Forest Public Library! This will be a great chance for them to interact while learning new songs, stories, and action rhymes. The event is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and after we can walk (weather permitting) or ride to the Wake Forest Coffee Company for some mommy and more baby social time. I have to say, I've been to a few coffee shops, and this one is amazing. They use syrups imported from France to flavor lattes and the like, and wow, does it make a difference! This shop really accommodated us moms and babies last time, letting us go upstairs and have an entire room to ourselves. :) Here is the nitty gritty: Baby & Me (6 - 18 months) Storytime, 10-10:30 a.m. Wake Forest Library, 400 E. Holding Ave., Wake Forest, NC 27587 (map) Wake Forest Coffee Company http://www.wakeforestcoffee.com/ 156 South White Street Wake Forest, NC 27587 See you there! Amy

Global Change Lecture with Solar Heating Presentation I was approached by one of our members (Johnny Vaughanja) with a request to give a presentation on solar water heating. Johnny sells these systems, and would like to pass on some information to the group. His presentation includes solar water heating and solar tubes only takes about 30 minutes. He will be presenting all the important information related to installation, cost, maintenance, warranty etc.. His talk will only take about 30 minutes, so I thought it may be a good opportunity to also provide a opening lecture on climate change in an easy to understand format. All of us encounter folks that do not believe in man caused global warming. Although most TAH Members count themselves among the advocates that consider climate change a reality, there are also (likely) some of our membership that are not convinced. When not working on on TAH projects, I actually have a day job studying climate change, and its impacts on southern US ecosystems at a lab I run on the campus of North Carolina State University (www.sgcp.ncsu.edu). With over 20 years of experience on the topic, I thought it might be fun to give a 45 minute lecture on; 1) why believe climate change is real and human caused; 2) what will be the likely impacts in our area now and over this century; and 3) what we can do about it. Then Johnny can give his talk, and we can have a discussion afterward. Ney Sayers being particularly welcome! So, if you are interested potentially installing a solar water heater (lots of tax incentive currently in place) or looking into solar tubes here is a good opportunity to learn about them, why also learning about our changing planet. The total event time is an hour and a half. Best of all, here is a TAH meeting that is more convenient for our city based members!

A Walk In A Different Park--Shelly Lake Hopefully the weather by now will cooperate for this walk in the park. It's a great way to get out and get some exercise while getting to know other moms and babies too. The trail is paved (great for strollering!), about 2 miles long, and has some scenic views along the way. We will be meeting at the entrance off of Millbrook Road at the bottom of the long ramp up to the paved walkway, near the parking lot. Some more info: Shelley Lake 1400 West Millbrook Road • Raleigh, NC 27614 Park Office: [masked] Shelley Lake consists of a 53 acre lake and park land surrounding the lake. Shelley Lake has 2 miles of paved, scenic greenway trails around the lake. There are many opportunities to enjoy nature, including beautiful and serene woods, views of the lake, and abundant wildlife. Also, located around the greenway trail are strategically placed workout stations to help enhance your exercise routine. Shelley Lake also has a playground area near Sertoma Art Center. There are also three open fields within the park available for use, whether you want to picnic, play soccer, or football!! Of course, this will be weather permitting, so if it looks like hail, rain, snow, or some otherwise inclement weather, I will reschedule this meetup for another date. (But, dear god, I hope NOT--I think we've had enough cruddy weather to last until next winter!!) I look forward to seeing familiar and new faces!
